Weekly Claw

The agreement landed. The models answered.
Twelve cards, three grids: Nvidia made its Hugging Face acquisition agreement official; Anthropic shipped two safeguard tiers; OpenClaw returned with 2.0; Qwen refreshed Max; New York paused classroom AI; Visko streamed living worlds; OpenAI launched GPT-6 Astra; Cerebras made Qwen3.8-27B absurdly fast; and World Labs turned video generation into spatial world modeling with Atlas.

The agreement landed. The models answered.

A chip company agreed to buy the open-weights home, two model tiers arrived with different guardrails, and an open-source agent platform came back from seven quiet weeks. Then New York City paused classroom AI for a year, Visko tried to stream living worlds, and World Labs put camera control and 3D reconstruction into one world model.

04 / HOT TAKE · 3 MIN
Hot take · the fight · two sides, one verdict

NYC’s one-year AI moratorium is a mistake.

One-year moratorium on student-facing generative AI through grade 8. About 600,000 students. Roughly 40 tools / 38 contracts. High-school modules and five supervised pilots remain. Is the pause the right call?

HENRY · MORATORIUM IS WRONG

Banning it in the classroom doesn’t ban it at home.

A classroom ban outsources AI literacy to families. Not all families are equal. Students without home support fall behind — and schools are supposed to close that gap, not hand it to the market.

  • The gap: families with resources keep teaching AI at home
  • The miss: schools should teach supervised use and verification
  • Mind-changer: evidence the pause improves outcomes and equity without widening the private-access gap
ANDY · SCOPED PAUSE IS DEFENSIBLE

One year to get the procurement and evidence right.

This is a time-limited, grade-scoped intervention — not a permanent ban. High-school modules and pilots remain. A pause creates space for standards, privacy rules, and evidence to catch up.

  • The scope: through grade 8 only; exceptions remain
  • The case: procurement and privacy frameworks do not yet exist at scale
  • Mind-changer: evidence supervised classroom AI improves learning equitably without dependence or privacy harm
Verdict: The moratorium is the wrong default. Restricting classroom access doesn’t restrict access — it restricts equitable access. Teach supervised use. Don’t pause it.

Caveats: Nvidia price is reported at about $12.9B to $14B; use about $13B on air. Anthropic benchmark and savings figures are company-reported. Qwen 0902 is a refresh, not a new base model. Orbis evaluations are vendor-reported. Astra benchmark and demo figures are vendor-reported; AGI is Brockman’s framing, not a consensus verdict. Atlas is early access; its camera-control and reconstruction comparisons are World Labs evaluations, not broad independent reproduction. NYC “ban” is shorthand for a moratorium with scope and exceptions through grade 8; high-school modules and five supervised pilots remain.
